Situated right in the middle of the wildlife sanctuary, Lake Umbagog State Park (Rte. 26, Cambridge, 603/482-7795, www.nhstateparks.com/um.html, $4 adults, $2 children 6–11, free children under 6) is one of the newest parks in the state system. It includes 35 campsites and three cabins in a base camp on the lake, with 34 more sites around the lake in remote locations only accessible by boat. The park also has a beach for swimming and fishing, as well as canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and motor boats for rent.
High up near the Canadian border, Mountain View Cabins and Campground (2787 N. Main St./Rte. 3, Pittsburg, 603/538 6305, website) has a lakeside campground with 55 tent sites ($18/night) as well as a number of remote housekeeping cabins ($150–170/night) scattered around the back roads of Pittsburg. The main office is located at Happy Corner, five miles north of Pittsburg Village.
