A small storefront selling wraps with exotic fillings, Papa Joe’s Wrap Shack (567 Hope St., 401/253-9911, www.papajoeswrapshack.com, 12 p.m.–9 p.m., $5–10) features varieties from Mongolian beef to triple mushroom.
For a plate as pleasing to the eye as to the stomach, stop into Persimmon (31 State St., Bristol, 401/254-7474, 5–9 p.m. Sun.–Tue., 5–10 p.m. Fri.–Sat., Jul.–Dec.; closed Sun. Jan.–Jun., $20–28), where attention to detail shows in both the flawless presentation and the artful combination of flavors. The restaurant strives to cook in harmony with the seasons, changing the menu four times a year to highlight farm- and boat-fresh ingredients. Summer might feature Massachusetts striped bass with squash-and-chanterelle ragout or Long Island crispy duck breast served with duck confit and a rosemary reduction.
Chef-owned by two Roberts, neither of which is demonstrably Italian, Roberto’s (301 Hope St., 401/254-9732, www.robertosonline.com, 11 a.m.–9 p.m., $14–25) is romantic with white tablecloths and candles. Aside from pasta and seafood dishes, most of the menu consists of just two items—veal and chicken—done in any one of 12 regional Italian styles.
Bristol’s oldest and best-known restaurant,
The Lobster Pot (119 Hope St., 401/253-9100, 12 p.m.–8 p.m., $25–35), proves that despite the fads, traditional New England seafood dishes are often still best. The seventeen lobster entrées on the menu include split-grilled, steamed, broiled, and—so-bad-it’s-good deep-fried, all served with a gorgeous view of Narragansett Bay.
