Under $100

A newly opened B&B in the heart of St. Johnsbury, Eastabrook House (1596 Main St., St Johnsbury, 802/751-8261, www.eastabrookhouse.com, $90–105) is an 1896 Victorian home that has been lovingly renovated by a Massachusetts transplant who moved to St. J after falling in love with the area more than a decade ago. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the home features four individually decorated rooms crawling with antiques, and a shared bathroom with a claw-foot soaker tub. The parkside location is almost as attractive as the reasonable price tag.

$100–150

The 10 individually decorated rooms at the Craftsbury Inn (107 S. Craftsbury Rd., Craftsbury , 802/586-2848, www.craftsburyinn.com, $60–130) are all in keeping with the style of the rest of the mid-19th century Greek Revival mansion. Each sports quilts and goose-down comforters and period antiques. There’s also a small pub, a refined but cozy French restaurant, and a wool shop on the premise.

Open year-round, Labour of Love (9 Sargent Ln., Glover, 802/525-6695, $99–110) offers one of the state’s more unusual “farmstays” with a few rooms in a restored 1800s Greek Revival farmhouse with an adjoining flower nursery. Its surrounding display gardens of local and exotic perennials are spectacular, while guestrooms are filled with antiques and botanical garden–sized tropical plants selected by cheerful proprietrix Kate Butler. As a bonus, all of the plants on display are available for sale from bulb or seed.

$150–250

Simple decor marks the guest rooms at Jay Village Inn (1078 Rte. 242, Jay, 802/988-2306, www.stayatjay.com, $75–199). Visitors sleep easy under the colorful quilts, in sleigh or canopied beds.

Rooms at Inn at Mountain View Farm (Darling Hill Rd., 802/626-9924, East Burke, www.innmtnview.com, $175–275) run from doubles to luxury suites, but all have an air of elegance about them. Filled with armoires, antique poster beds, floral wallpaper, and tasteful down comforters, they’re a cosseting place to rest after a day on the slopes. Rates include country breakfast and afternoon tea.

$250 and Up

Lavishly decorated and tranquil to its core, Rabbit Hill Inn (48 Lower Waterford Rd., Lower Waterford, 802/748-5168, www.rabbithillinn.com, $199–359) fills rooms with such amenities as fluffy robes, private porches, and fireplaces, just for starters. But you may be tempted to leave your room once you hear about the perks in the rest of the property—afternoon tea and pastries, apple cheddar crepes at breakfast, and candlelight dinners prepared by Matthew Secich.
