Step into your very own Christmas card with a sleigh ride at Adams Farm (15 Highley Hill Rd., Wilmington, 802/464-3762, www.adamsfamilyfarm.com, 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. Tues.–Sun. mid-Dec.–mid-Mar., $20 adults, $10 children 4–12, free children under 4). Drawn by Belgian draft horses, the sleighs travel through maple woods to a log cabin, where guest sip hot chocolate and listen to tunes from an old-fashioned player piano.

In the summer (10 a.m.–5 p.m. Wed.–Sun., day pass $15 adults, $13 children 2–12, children under 2 free), fifth-generation hard-rock farmer Bill Adams exchanges horses for a sputtering 1959 John Deere for his entertaining tours of the farm, which has produced timber, maple syrup, sheep, and milk depending on Vermont’s economic circumstances.

The farm’s latest economic driver is agritourism, with a full complement of livestock to instantly turn visiting kids into walking renditions of Old MacDonald (a “baa baa” here, a “neigh neigh” there), and evening hay rides bringing guests to a bonfire pit for s’mores under the stars and the smoky blues vocals of Bill’s daughter, sixth-generation farmer Jill.
