Rail trails and scenic biking abound in Hudson Valley. The following bike-able bridges cross the Hudson River, offering lovely views and connections to scenic rides on both sides. Bridges and walkways are listed from south to north.

George Washington Bridge

Take Cabrini Boulevard to the south walkway of the upper roadway, which is open to cyclists (closed midnight–6 a.m.).

Newburgh-Beacon Bridge

Cyclists are welcome to ride on the south side sidewalk of the bridge — but take care, as the surface of the sidewalk is metal with a strong texture, which can become very slippery when wet.

Mid-Hudson Bridge

Bicycles may be taken across the north walkway during normal daylight hours. From the east, ride down Church Street; from the west, look for the “Bicycle Route” signs to the walkway.

Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge

This off-road, paved (concrete and asphalt), wide walkway about 1.5 miles long is open to cyclists.

Rip Van Winkle Bridge

The roadway is open to cyclists, while the walkway on the south side is for pedestrians.

Dunn Memorial Bridge

A bike path connects Rensselaer on the east and Albany on the west, while the region’s Thruway Extension is closed to cyclists.
