Lake George wouldn’t be Lake George without its amusement parks. Five miles south of the village reigns the largest—the Great Escape & Splashdown Kingdom (1172 Rte. 9, 518/792-3500, www.sixflags.com/greatEscape, adults $41, children under 48 inches $26, children under age 2 free), offering over 125 rides, shows, and attractions, including Steamin’ Demon Loop Rollercoaster, Sasquatch drop ride and Black Cobra.

Three miles south of the village, Magic Forest (Rte. 9, 518/668-2448, www.magicforestpark.com, 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, adults $18, children under 12 and seniors $16) offers 20 rides for children and five for adults. Lots of animals are on the premises; during the daily “Diving Horse Act,” a horse walks off a plank into a pool.

One mile south of the village, Water Slide World (Rte. 9, at Rte. 91, 518/668-4407, 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m. daily, $27, children under 11 $24, seniors and toddlers $11) includes a wave pool, water slides, bumper boats, and hot tubs.

All three parks open in June and close after Labor Day.
