Midway down the west side of Cayuga Lake lies Romulus, known for its vineyards and wineries. Two of the best, only five miles apart, are the Swedish Hill Vineyard (4565 Rte. 414, 315/549-8326, www.swedishhill.com) and the Knapp Winery, Vineyards, and Restaurant (2770 County Rd. 128, 607/869-9271, www.knappwine.com). Swedish Hill, a very large operation, produces about 30,000 cases of 25 different kinds of wines a year; Knapp is much smaller, but its wines are among the region’s finest. Both wineries are open April–December, Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sunday noon–5 p.m.; call for off-season hours.
The breezy Knapp Winery Restaurant (2770 County Rd. 128, 607/869-9481, average lunch entrée $9, average dinner entrée $18) serves lunch daily April–October and dinner on summer weekends; call for hours. Local produce is emphasized.
