Danby Rd., 607/589-4771, www.logtv.com/inn, $70–150 d) may sound rustic but it features soaring cathedral ceilings, fireplaces, a sauna, and a dozen guest rooms, some with Jacuzzis and all wildly themed and loaded with loggish details; a trip to the website is suggested to handpick a vibe of choice. Next door is a 7,000-acre forest perfect for hiking and cross-country skiing. Some rooms share baths.

The Inn @ City Lights (1319 Mecklenburg Rd., 607/227-3003, www.theinnatcitylights.com, $135–155) offers warm service, roomy suites (some with full kitchen and woodstove), and cozy bedrooms, all with private bath and modern amenities. The garden is a nice place to relax or to enjoy Ithaca’s fireworks displays on holidays.

The picturesque William Henry Miller Inn (303 N. Aurora St., 607/256-4553, www.millerinn.com, $155–185), an 1880 home and carriage house filled with stained glass and carved wood details, offers high-ceilinged rooms with private baths (some with Jacuzzis) and modern amenities, warm service, evening dessert with coffee, and gourmet breakfast with offerings such as Poached Eggs with Sun Dried Tomato Hollandaise or Crème Brulee French Toast.
