For spectacular views of the lake, drive down either Route 41 to the east or Route 41A to the west. Route 41A veers away from the shoreline at the southern end and leads to New Hope Mills (181 York Street, Auburn, 315/497-0783, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Fri. and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sat. May–Dec.), an 1823 flour mill where grain is still ground with granite and burr stones operated by a 26-foot overshot waterwheel. Unbleached flours and grains are for sale.
