A few miles east of Katonah is 4,700-acre Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (Rtes. 35 and 121, 914/864-7317, 8 a.m.–dusk daily, parking $8 May–Sept.), the largest park in Westchester County. Laced with 35 miles of good, fairly rugged hiking trails, the park also features two rivers for fishing and a small Trailside Nature Museum (10 a.m.–4 p.m. Wed.–Sun.). Year-round camping under lean-tos is available.
Shoppers might like to stop at nearby Yellow Monkey Village (Rte. 35 just east of Rte. 121, 914/763-5848, Tues.–Sun.), an attractive collection of shops housed in reproduction 18th-century buildings. The shops sell everything from Portuguese pottery to silk flowers.
