Offering great views of the falls is the Top of the Falls Restaurant (Terrapin Point, Goat Island, 716/278-0348, $17). On the menu is contemporary American cuisine, including lots of fish and pasta dishes, as well as sandwiches, salads, and pizza at lunch.

Directly across from the Rainbow Bridge is the Misty Dog Grill (431 Main St., 716/285-0702), where you can order veggie dogs, turkey dogs, Sinatra (“your way”) dogs…You get the idea. Wedged between Niagara Park and the Rainbow Centre Mall is a Hard Rock Café (333 Prospect Ave., 716/282-0007), offering classic American food and a souvenir shop.

At the cozy, Tudor-style Red Coach Inn (2 Buffalo Ave., 716/282-1459, $16), outfitted with heavy wooden tables and chairs, waiters dress in old English attire. The food ranges from omelettes to steak and an outdoor patio is open in warm weather.

Six miles north of the falls find John’s Flaming Hearth (1965 Military Rd., 716/297-1414, $18), a local institution famed for its charcoal-broiled steak.
