For a light lunch or supper, try the very clean family-run Burger Bonny (tel. 954/543-2016, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily), at the southeast corner of the main plaza. Besides six varieties of good hamburgers, Burger Bonny offers tortas, tacos, french fries, hot dogs, microwave popcorn, fruit juices, and refrescos ($1–4).
Also worthy is traditional-style
Fonda Toñita (7 a.m.–9 p.m. Mon.–Sat.), a block north of the churchfront, at the corner of Aguirre Palancares. Local folks flock here for the hearty afternoon comida (pick the entrée, and you get rice and tortillas thrown in free, $4); it’s also good for breakfast ($2–4).
Third restaurant choice goes to Tacos Orientales (6–11 p.m. daily), with 15 styles of tacos, from fish to carnitas, three for $2.50. Find it on Pérez Gasga, half a block north of the churchfront.
On the other hand, consider marisquería Peñitas (8 a.m.–midnight daily), next door, which specializes in fresh seafood however you like it: fried, baked, breaded, al mojo, and more ($5–8).
For a quick and convenient on-the-road breakfast, lunch, or dinner ($3–6), stop by the restaurant of high-profile Pepe’s Hotel (tel. 954/543-4347, 8 a.m.–10 p.m. daily) west of town.
