$50–100

Of the half-dozen old-fashioned motor court motels that flank U.S. 101 in Reedsport, the Fir Grove Motel (2178 Winchester Ave., 541/271-4848, $58 and up) is clean, basic, and well maintained, with complimentary breakfast. Also recommended is the Economy Inn (1593 Highway Ave., 541/271-3671 or 800/799-9970, $75 and up), with complimentary breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and an outdoor pool. A family restaurant is next door.

Anglers, or anyone who’d rather be in a location off the main drag, should consider the Winchester Bay Motel (4th St. and Broadway, Winchester Bay, 541/271-4871 or 800/246-1462, www.winbayinn.com, $76 and up), located just across from the docks. Guest rooms are basic but clean. Even though this is a large sprawling complex, be sure to reserve ahead of time in fishing season. Pets are permitted in some guest rooms.

A few miles north of Reedsport in Gardiner is a lodging with more character than those along motel row. The Gardiner Guest House (401 Front St., 541/271-4005, www.gardinerbedandbreakfast.com, $75–85) is located in a sleepy former paper-mill town that sits close by the confluence of the Smith and Umpqua Rivers. The 1883 home was built by local bigwig and state senator Albert Reed, for whom Reedsport was named. The recently remodeled home still has the Victorian feel, without lacking in modern conveniences. If you like to peruse old books by a fire or watch bald eagles from a bay window above the Umpqua River, you’ll love this place. Choose between a room with the facilities down the hall and a higher-priced room with a view and a private bathroom. A large home-cooked breakfast is included in the rates.

$100 and Up

If you’re interested in this area’s ultimate get-away-from-it-all alternative, try the Salbasgeon Inn of the Umpqua (45209 Hwy. 38, Reedsport, 541/271-2025, www.salbasgeon.com, $100 and up) with nicely appointed rooms fronting onto the Umpqua and a romantic location about seven miles upstream from town. The name was inspired by the three most popular sportfishing species in the region (salmon, bass, and sturgeon). Pets are permitted for an extra fee.

The same owners have a hotel in Reedsport itself. The Best Western Salbasgeon Inn (1400 Hwy. 101, 541/271-4831 or 800/528-1234, $115 and up) is Reedsport’s newest hotel, located on U.S. 101 just south of the Umpqua River bridge. Amenities include an indoor pool, a fitness center, guest laundry, and a hot tub. Continental breakfast is complimentary.
