Most travelers seem to pass through Tillamook on their way to someplace else, but a good local choice is Best Western Inn & Suites (1722 N. Makinster Rd., 503/842-7599 or 800/299-4817, $130 and up), close to the cheese factory. Rooms have a refrigerator, a microwave, an iron and ironing board, a coffeemaker, and cable TV. Amenities include an indoor pool, a sauna, and a hot tub, plus a complimentary continental breakfast.
There’s not a lot going on in downtown Tillamook, but if you’d like to stay in town, as opposed to the lengthy and busy commercial strip north of town, then book a room at the Mar-Clair Inn (11 Main Ave., 503/842-7571 or 800/331-6857, $76), a pleasant motor court tucked just off 101 with and outdoor pool and a restaurant.
