Step up to the plate to try Nuestra Cocina (2135 SE Division St., 503/232-2135, www.nuestra-cocina.com, 5–10 p.m. Tues.–Sat., $9–18), which serves truly sophisticated south-of-the-border cuisine in a lively and elegant Eastside dining room. The flavors of Oaxaca, Yucatan, Vera Cruz, and tropical Mexico jump off the plate. The mole sauces contain labyrinths of flavor; this spot is deservedly popular and doesn’t take reservations, so come early or late.
