Midrange properties are the domain of the chains. Best Western Olympic Inn (2627 S. 6th St., 541/882-9665 or 800/600-9665, $89 and up), Holiday Inn Express (2500 S. 6th St., 541/884-9999 or 800/465-4329, $97 and up), Quality Inn & Suites (100 Main St., 541/882-4666 or 888/762-2466, $90 and up), and Days Inn (3612 S. 6th St., 541/882-8864 or 800/329-7466, $60 and up) all feature the expected pools, continental breakfasts, and other upgrades.

Three miles (ten minutes’ drive) from town on the south shore of Upper Klamath Lake adjacent to 400-acre Moore Park is Thompson’s B&B (1420 Wild Plum Court, 541/882-7938, $115–125 d, cash or check only). This large modern home is on the lake and has a huge deck overlooking the water, making it an ideal place to spot all manner of wildlife. The four guest rooms are each decorated according to a differing theme, and each has a private bathroom and color TV.

The Running Y Ranch Resort (5500 Running Y Rd., 541/850-5500 or 888/850-0275, www.runningy.com, $174 and up d, suites $247 and up) offers the total Klamath Basin package experience. This upscale golf resort has country-club homes, and travelers can stay in the deluxe guest rooms at the ranch lodge. The 82 guest rooms are a mix of comfortable hotel-style rooms and well-appointed one-bedroom suites. Two- and three-bedroom houses are also available.
