Three miles (ten minutes’ drive) from town on the south shore of Upper Klamath Lake adjacent to 400-acre Moore Park is Thompson’s B&B (1420 Wild Plum Court, 541/882-7938, $115–125 d, cash or check only). This large modern home is on the lake and has a huge deck overlooking the water, making it an ideal place to spot all manner of wildlife. The four guest rooms are each decorated according to a differing theme, and each has a private bathroom and color TV.

This upscale golf resort has country-club homes, and travelers can stay in the deluxe guest rooms at the ranch lodge.
