You can get good background information on the region with a visit to the Klamath County Museum (1451 Main St., 541/883-4208, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Tues.–Sat., $4 adults, $3 seniors and students, $2 children ages 5–12) in the old national armory building. The natural-history section has exhibits on fossils, geology, minerals, and indigenous wildlife of the Klamath Basin.
The exploration and settlement area depicts the hardships of pioneer life, the events leading to the Modoc Indian War, and events up through the world wars.
