Roseburg is not exactly the fine-dining capital of Oregon, but you won’t go hungry here.

The McMenamins brewery empire has an appealing operation at Roseburg Station (700 SE Sheridan St., 541/672-1934, lunch and dinner daily, $6–13). The 1912 Southern Pacific Station was purchased and restored while preserving original features like the 16-foot-high ceiling, tongue-and-groove Douglas fir wainscoting, and marble molding. Historical photos and art further recount the depot’s storied past. Quality food and microbrews in a setting suitable for families further enhance the appeal.

Some of Roseburg’s best dining is Italian-style.
Dino’s Ristorante Italiano (404 SE Jackson St., 541/673-0848, dinner Mon.–Sat., $10–16) is a cozy family-run spot with decor that’s a sprawl of wine cases, travel guides, and cookbooks. The husband-and-wife cooking team spend part of each year in Italy, so the food is about as authentic as you’ll find anywhere in southern Oregon.

Famous for its breakfasts, Brix 527 (527 SE Jackson St., 541/440-4901, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Sun.–Thurs., 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Fri.) is downtown and gets the basics, like delicious omelets and eggs Benedict, exactly right. At lunch expect soup, salad, and more inventive dishes like grilled bacon-wrapped salmon on saffron rice. Brix 527 stays open Friday nights for dinner.
