Just off Route 138 on the west side of the town of Glide is the site of this curiosity. The Wild and Umpqua Rivers meet head-on in a bowl of green serpentine. The best times to view this spectacle are after winter storms and when spring runoff is high.
If the water is low, check out the high-water mark from the Christmas flood of 1964. Water levels from that great inundation were lapping at the parking lot, a chilling reminder that umpqua means “thundering water” in Chinook.
