From South America

Panama has good connections with much of South America, particularly Colombia. Flights will most likely be on a Central American or South American airline.

Few other carriers fly directly between South America and Panama, but tickets can be booked through an airline’s code share partners. American Airlines (www.aa.com) has an especially extensive network of South American flights operated either by itself or its partners.

Copa (www.copaair.com) flies between Panama City and Colombia (Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena, and San Andrés), Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Ecuador (Quito and Guayaquil).

Other airlines that fly between Panama and South America include Avianca (www.avianca.com), Grupo TACA (www.taca.com), and Aero República (operated by Copa, www.copaair.com).

Colombia and Ecuador are less than two hours from Panama City, and standard round-trip, advance-purchase fares to these and other relatively close destinations run about US$500–800. Promotional deals can cut fares in half, especially for popular routes.

Nonstop flights to or from the most distant locations, such as Argentina and Brazil, take at least seven hours and can cost well over US$1,000 for advance-purchase fares.
