It is possible to reach Peru by international bus service from the surrounding countries of Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina. The major buses that run these routes can be quite comfortable, with reclining seats, movies, and meals. The longest international bus trips leave from Lima. Some major neighboring cities from which buses travel to Lima are: Santa Cruz in Bolivia, Asunción in Paraguay, Córdoba and Buenos Aires in Argentina, Montevideo in Uruguay, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and Santiago in Chile. Buses leave frequently from/to La Paz, Bolivia, for the five-hour direct journey to Puno and on to Cusco. The main international bus companies are Cruz del Sur (Lima tel. 01/311-5050, www.cruzdelsur.com.pe), Ormeño (Lima tel. 01/472-1710, www.grupo-ormeno.com.pe), Caracol (tel. 01/431-1400, www.perucaracol.com), and El Rápido (Lima tel. 01/425-1066, www.elrapidoint.com.ar).
