Biking
Trip Ideas
The standard Colca mountain-bike route begins at Patapampa, at 4,950 meters, and drops into the Colca Valley at Chivay at 3,650 meters. Bikers follow dirt roads along the north side of the river and cross the bridge to Yanque.
The third day would include the Cruz del Condór and Maca, and end in Cabanaconde.
Cusipata (Jerusalén 408A, tel. 054/20-3966, www.cusipata.co) can also design extraordinary routes in Cotahuasi and the Valley of the Volcanoes. Cusipata also rents bikes.
Another good option is Naturaleza Activa (Santa Catalina 211, tel. 054/959-822-436 or 958-681-486, naturactiva [at] yahoo [dot] com), which also offers more mellow biking trips around Arequipa’s countryside.
