Cinemas

Lima has more cinemas than the rest of the country combined. Most foreign movies are shown in their original language with subtitles, except for children’s movies, which are often dubbed. Film listings are posted in El Comercio (www.elcomercioperu.com.pe).

The Centro Cultural PUCP (Camino Real 1075, tel. 01/616-1616, http://cultural.pucp.edu.pe), in San Isidro, hosts several film festivals throughout the year. Its biggest show is in August with the increasingly well-known Lima Latin American Film Festival.

In Miraflores alone there are three multiplexes showing both Hollywood and Latin American movies: Cineplanet Alcázar (Santa Cruz 814, Óvalo Gutierrez, Miraflores, tel. 01/421-8208, www.cineplanet.com.pe, US$7), El Pacífico 12 (Jose Pardo 121, Miraflores, tel. 01/445-6990, US$5.50), and Multicines Larcomar (in Larcomar mall at end of Larco, tel. 01/446-7336, www.uvkmulticines.com, US$3).

A smaller recommended theater is Cine Club Miraflores (Larco 770, Miraflores, tel. 01/446-2649).

In central Lima there is Cineplanet Centro (Jr. de la Union 819, tel. 01/428-8460, www.cineplanet.com.pe, US$2, US$3.50 Mon.–Wed.).

For art and classic films, check out El Cinematógrafo (Pérez Roca 196, Barranco, tel. 01/477-1961, www.elcinematografo.com, US$4.50) in Barranco.
