Tour Agencies and Guides
Guided tours are a good option for getting to Chiclayo’s far-flung sites and having them explained by an informed guide.
One of the most comprehensive operators in Peru’s north is InkaNatura Travel, which has a Chiclayo office in the lobby of the Gran Hotel (Federico Villareal 115, tel. 074/20-9948, www.inkanatura.com). InkaNatura runs a range of local cultural tours that can be linked to longer excursions in Trujillo and Chachapoyas. InkaNatura also has an office in Lima (Manuel Bañon 461, San Isidro, tel. 01/440-2022) and an operator in the United States: Tropical Nature (www.tropicalnature.org).
Another recommended local agency is Tumi Tours (Colon 599, tel. 074/22-5371, www.tumitours.com, US$25 pp two person minimum) which has organized tours to the major museums, Túcume, and even the southern beach towns like Santa Rosa.
For a private guide, call Sysy Moreno (tel. 074/20-6387, sysysilva [at] hotmail [dot] com), a detail-oriented, Spanish-speaking guide.
The friendly, English-speaking guide José Jimenez (tel. 074/22-1403, peko [at] viabcp [dot] com) will go to any site you want for about US$9 pp, two person minimum.
