Monsefú and Santa Rosa

Woven straw goods and embroidered cotton cloth are made by hand and sold in a daily market at Monsefú, eight kilometers from Chiclayo.

Another five kilometers toward the coast is Santa Rosa, a fishing village of brightly painted boats where fishermen return from the sea late in the morning to mend their nets in the afternoon. Although not as beautiful as the beaches farther north of Piura, this is the best of several beaches around Chiclayo and a good place to relax and have a leisurely ceviche lunch.

Getting to Monsefú and Santa Rosa

This circuit could be done with a tour agency, hired private car (US$30 per day), or via combis leaving Terminal de Epsel at the corner of Avenida Oriente and Nicolás de Pierola in Chiclayo.
