There are occasional beach bonfires, but for more of a party head to El Kero Restaurant Pub (La Ribera 115, tel. 044/461-186, www.elkero.com, 9 a.m.–midnight daily, US$2.50–4). The softy lit pub with yellow walls doubles as a restaurant during the day, but at night, it’s known for its long list of cocktails—Bloody Mary to pisco sour—and live music during the summertime.
One of Huanchaco’s more famous celebrations happens in the last days of June when a flotilla of caballitos de tótora, including a gigantic one made especially for carrying the religious image of San Pedro, arrives on the beach in Huanchaco atop breaking waves. The two-day festival of San Pedro, patron saint of fishermen, also includes a religious procession and celebrations.
