COST: $250 basic sessions, $595 competitive sessions
The Schuylkill River is one of the nation’s most popular rivers for rowing—which also happens to be a very expensive and exclusive sport. Paul Coomes and Amy Giddings opened PA Rowing Camps in 2000 to provide a (somewhat) more affordable experience.
PA Rowing Camps teaches youths and adults rowing techniques, and a series of four classes (held during summertime) begin at $250. Courses cater to all different ages and skill levels.
If you can’t afford or aren’t up for rowing yourself, you can still hang out by Boathouse Row and watch the collegiate and professional rowers glide by.
