In 1876, the Japanese Bazaar and Garden came to the area for the Centennial Exposition, and while the site has changed shape several times, there has been some form of Japanese landscaping here ever since. Today, it offers a glimpse into the home and gardens of a 17th-century Japanese scholar.
Originally designed by Yoshimura Junzoo and built in 1953 in Nagoya, Japan, the house was reassembled at the current site in 1958. Enjoy the tranquil setting, take part in a traditional tea ceremony, and learn about the structure and culture of an authentic Japanese shofuso.
