1114 Walnut St., 215/923-1515,
Built in the late 1920s by the Shubert Organization and named for legendary 19th-century actor Edwin Forrest, the Forrest Theatre has no resident company but hosts a variety of traveling shows. With most Broadway fare setting up shop at the nearby Academy of Music, it is frequently empty, which is unfortunate since the building is lovely.
However, a partnership with the Kimmel Center holds out hope that the Forrest will once again become a necessary stop for theater-loving Philadelphians in search of a good show.
