Brandywine River Museum
Trip Ideas
Brandywine River Museum (100 Creek Rd., 610/388-2700, www.brandywinemuseum.org, daily 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., $8 adult, $5 senior, student, and child 6–12, free child under 6) contains three floors of art. The river can be seen through floor-to-ceiling windows, making it the perfect setting for the impressive showcase of mostly local art.
Among more than 3,000 works on display are a wealth of impressive still lifes and illustrations, many from the Wyeth family, especially Andrew, probably the most famous Wyeth, for his moving, realistic portrayals of the Brandywine landscape.
As you stroll the galleries, you’ll be fascinated by the similarities and differences in the works of three generations of Wyeth painters, including Andrew’s father, N. C., and his son Jamie. Works of other early American artists are also on display.
