World Café Live represents another big step in making University City worth the trip across the river from Center City. Two truly lovely performances spaces, Upstairs Live and Downstairs Live, have been carved out of an old factory, hosting independent, contemporary, and folk artists several nights a week.
Its diverse performance lineup isn’t the only draw; it serves delicious food and drinks from tasty lunch specials to a more upscale yet affordable dinner menu.
Also housed in the building are the studios for WXPN, the non-commercial radio station whose nationally syndicated World Café program gave the venue its name, though the station and venue have no relationship beyond that.
