HOURS: Mon.–Sat. 11:30 a.m.–7 p.m., Sun. 1–7 p.m.

A Gayborhood mainstay since 1973, Giovanni’s Room has grown into one of the largest bookstores in the world that specializes in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender literature.

In addition to shelves stocked with queer-oriented novels, magazines, videos, calendars, self-help books, travel guides, and art books, the store contains enough rainbow paraphernalia to stock a Queer as Folk reunion tour.

It also hosts speakers and readings, and serves as a de facto community resource center. The enthusiastic staff can help you find what you need and will track down hard-to-find titles if they’re not in stock.

Both the staff and materials serve as a great resource for gay visitors who are getting oriented to the city.
