If sportswear-makers are allowed to have a storied history, then Mitchell & Ness is the stuff of legends. Starting out in a modest downtown storefront in 1904, the two-person outfitter started crafting and retailing tennis racquets, golf clubs, and other items before moving on to specialize in team uniforms.
The Phillies, Athletics (pre-Oakland, of course), and Eagles all wore their clothes. Flash forward to the present, when the team jersey has become a high-priced fashion item, and Mitchell & Ness is the supplier of choice for urban and suburban high-schoolers, middle-aged men recapturing their youth, hip-hop heads, and ballers.
A destination shop, it is a must for anyone interested in classic sports gear. It’s so popular with a national and even international crowd that a branch recently opened in Japan. Items can also be ordered through their website.
