Heladería de Lares (Centro Calle 23 de Septiembre Plaza, Mon.–Thurs. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Fri.–Sun. 9 a.m.–6 p.m., 787/897-3290 or 787/505-6299, $1.50 per scoop) has nothing like the 31 flavors at Baskin-Robbins. This unusual shop features a wide variety of uniquely flavored ice creams all made on the premises. The confection leans toward a light and fruity formula instead of a heavy butter base, but it’s still very creamy and incredibly fresh. Try the sweet, nutty maiz (corn) flavor sprinkled with cinnamon. The outstanding pineapple flavor is studded with big chunks of fresh fruit. For something really unusual, try the rice and beans or plantain flavor.
