Despite Luquillo’s popularity as a tourist destination for locals and international travelers alike, it has a dearth of overnight accommodations.
Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn (A3 Ocean Blvd., 787/409-2929, info [at] luquillosunrise [dot] com, www.luquillosunrise.com, $115–135 s/d, $210 suite, $195 two-bedroom casita, plus 9 percent tax) is a spiffy new 15-unit property right across the street from La Pared beach at Calle Herminio Diaz Navarro. Rooms are neat, modern, and comfortable. A restaurant on-site serves breakfast only.
El Yunque Mar (6 Calle 1, 787/889-5555, hotel [at] yunquemar [dot] com, www.yunquemar.com, $95–110 s/d, suites $225–250, plus 9 percent tax) is a small hotel in a residential area right on Playa Fortuna. This modest, faux Spanish-style hacienda offers 15 clean modern units with air-conditioning and cable TV. Suites come with mini-refrigerators and microwaves. There’s no restaurant or bar, but there is a small pool.
