Martineau Bay Resort and Spa (Carr. 200, km 3.4, Isabel Segunda, 787/741-4100, fax 787/741-4171) was closed for a massive remodel project in late 2008. An anomaly on Vieques, it’s the first megaresort but most likely not the last. Formerly owned and operated by Wyndham and later bought by W Hotels, the complex has 156 rooms and villas, all either oceanfront or ocean-view. There are also one- to three-bedroom villas.

Amenities include a large pool with swim-up bar, full-service spa, fitness room, beach access, tennis courts, and room service. All rooms have air-conditioning, satellite TV, CD players, coffeemakers, hair dryers, and private balconies or terraces. The rooms are large and ultraluxurious, featuring Spanish tile bathrooms, mahogany furniture, and amazing mattresses.
