Snorkeling, Diving, and Fishing
The best diving in Vieques can be found along the fringe reefs on the southern side of the island. Nan-Sea Charters (787/741-2390, dgephoto1 [at] aol [dot] com, www.nanseacharters.com) offers half-day, two-dive trips starting at $100 from a 28-foot dive boat. One-tank shore dives are $50. Custom coral tours and diving certification courses are also available.
Combine a day of sailing and snorkeling with Sail Vieques in Isabel Segunda (787/508-7245, billwillo [at] yahoo [dot] com). A half-day trip with snorkeling is $50, and a daylong trip to the southern tip of the Bermuda Triangle with snorkeling is $110. Captain Bill also offers a two-hour sunset cruise for $30.
Vieques Adventure Company (69 Calle Orquideas, Esperanza, 787/692-9162, garry [at] ciequesadventures [dot] com, www.bikevieques.com) offers kayak rentals ($45) and tours, as well as individual kayak fishing tours ($150).
Go inshore fishing for kingfish, amberjack, barracuda, pompano, and tarpon on a 21-foot Ranger bay boat with Captain Franco Gonzalez of Caribbean Fly Fishing (61 Calle Orquideas, Esperanza, 787/741-1337 or 787/450-3744, fly fish [at] coqui [dot] net, www.viequesflyfishing.com).
