Beaches Just South of Town

Beach lovers can spend a month of Sundays poking around the many little beaches south of Puerto Vallarta. Drive, take a taxi, or hop a Mismaloya or Boca minibus from the corner of Badillo and Constitución.
Just watch out the window, and when you see a likely spot, ask the driver to stop. Say “Pare (PAH-ray) por favor.” The location will most likely be one of several lovely playas: El Gato (Cat), Los Venados (Deer), Los Carrizos (Reeds), Punta Negra (Black Point), Garza Blanca (White Heron), or Gemelas (Twins).
Although many of these little sand crescents have big hotels and condos, it doesn’t matter because beaches are public in Mexico up to the high-tide line. There is always some path to the beach used by local folks. Just ask “¿Dónde está el camino a la playa?” and someone will probably point the way.
