Four miles south of El Super, at Rosada Beach, sharing the same luscious Chamela Bay strand, is the Centro Vacacional Chamela Sección 47, a teachers’ vacation retreat that rents its unoccupied units to the general public. The two modern, apartment-style tiers enfold an invitingly lovely grassy pool patio and park. An outdoor palapa stands by the pool and another airy open room invites cards and conversation. The units themselves are large, bright one-bedrooms, sleeping four, with sea views and kitchens. Rentals ($60/day) are on a drop-in basis. Telephone the manager around noon at 315/333-9878 or 315/333-9777 in Spanish to see if he can rent you an apartment. Arrive before about 4 p.m., when the manager is usually around to check things before going home for the night. On nonholiday weekdays the place is often nearly empty. Have a look by following the upper of two side roads at the big 47 sign near the Km 66 marker. Within a few hundred yards you’ll be there. Ask one of the teachers to explain the significance of 47.
