So the boss won’t give you a whole week off. Don’t be blue. Memphis has the cure for what ails you.
Day 1
Arrive in Memphis. Grab a taxi to your downtown hotel, such as the Peabody Memphis or the Talbot Heirs Guest House. If you’re in time, watch the duck march at 5 p.m. at the Peabody, and then walk to Beale Street for dinner at E. P. Delta Kitchen and a night of music at B. B. King’s.
Day 2
Get an early start at Graceland and beat the crowds. Ponder the meaning of Elvis over barbecue from the Interstate Bar-B-Que at lunch. Make a detour to Sun Studio, where Elvis cut his first records, and then take an afternoon stroll along the Mighty Mississippi at Tom Lee Park. Enjoy a fine dinner at the Inn at Hunt Phelan.
Day 3
Ride the trolley to the National Civil Rights Museum. Spend the afternoon at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Go back to Beale Street for a late afternoon stroll. Grab a cold one and listen to the blues. Make it an early or a late night: your choice.
