The national park publishes a free quarterly newspaper, Smokies Guide, which is available from any NPS-affiliated visitors center. The newspaper includes information about seasonal hazards, road closures, and upcoming events.

To request general park information, contact the park headquarters at 865/436-1200. Campground and other reservations may be made at 877/444-6777. For backcountry campsites call 865/436-1231. You can order maps and guides at 888/898-9102.

A wide selection of brochures, guides, and books are available for purchase at visitors centers or online at www.smokiesinformation.org.

The park website (www.nps.gov/grsm) has a lot of information about attractions, activities, and current conditions. The website offers webcams that show current conditions at Look Rock and Purchase Knob within the park.

Pets

You may bring your pet to campgrounds and roadsides as long as they are restrained at all times. Pets are not allowed on trails, except for the Gatlinburg and Oconaluftee River Trails.

Communications

Do not count on your cell phone working inside the park. While you are likely to get service in the gateway communities surrounding the park, many parts of the Smokies are outside of cell phone range. Campgrounds and visitors centers have pay phones.
