Sundown in the City (www.sundowninthecity.com) is a summer-long free concert series that takes place on Thursday evening at Market Square Mall downtown. These family-friendly events start early in order to catch the after-work downtown crowd. Performers include up-and-coming folk, rock, and Americana artists, as well as local and regional talent.
The Kuumba Festival (www.kuumbafesttn.com) is an African-inspired street festival that takes place in June at Market Square downtown and in Chilhowee Park in East Knoxville. The event features parades, music, arts demonstrations, and vendors, all with an African theme.
The end of summer is marked annually with Boomsday, a massive fireworks display over the Tennessee River on Labor Day.
