Knoxville has an expanding array of greenways that connect parks and make it possible to get around the city on foot or by bike. Those of special note include the James White Greenway that originates at the South Knoxville bridge and follows the Tennessee River to Volunteer Landing downtown.
On the other end of Volunteer Landing, you can follow the Neyland Greenway to Tyson Park and onwards to the Third Creek Greenway, which connects with both the Bearden Greenway and the Sequoyah Greenway.
On the south side of the river, the Will Skelton Greenway begins at Island Home Park, passes through Ijams Nature Center, and follows the shore of the Tennessee to the Forks of the River.
For information about Knoxville greenways, go to www.cityofknoxville.org/greenways or call 865/215-4311 for the Parks and Recreation Department. The Knox Greenways Coalition (865/215-2807, www.knoxgreenwayscoalition.org) supports the use and development of greenways in the city.
