Memphis may be the birthplace of the blues, but there’s a lot more to the music scene than that. It’s true that you can catch live blues at a Beale Street nightclub or in a city juke joint. But you can also find hard-edge rock, jazz, and acoustic music most nights of the week.
The best resource for up-to-date entertainment listings is the free weekly Memphis Flyer (www.memphisflyer.com), which comes out on Wednesday and includes a detailed listing of club dates and concerts.
Keep in mind that big-name artists often perform at casinos in Tunica, just over the state line in Mississippi. Many of these shows are advertised in Memphis media outlets, or check out the upcoming events on the Tunica Convention and Visitors Bureau website, www.tunicamiss.com.
