The least-known Elvis attraction in Memphis is Lauderdale Courts (252 N. Lauderdale St., 901/523-8662, www.lauderdalecourts.com), the public housing complex where Presley lived with his parents from 1949 to 1953 before his rise to fame.
The handsome brick building was saved from the wrecking ball in the 1990s, and the apartment where the Presleys lived has been restored to its 1950s glory.
Most of the year, the Lauderdale Courts Elvis suite is rented out as a hotel room, but during Elvis’s Birthday Week in January and Elvis Week in August it is open for public tours.
