During the first full weekend in December, Mission Tumacácori, about six miles south of Tubac along the frontage road, hosts a festival featuring dozens of food vendors and craft booths, live music, kids’ activities, and a traditional mariachi mass celebrated in front of the ruin of the 17th-century mission, which was founded, like its sister to the north San Xavier del Bac, by Padre Kino during his legendary forays into the Santa Cruz Valley. During the festival admittance to the national park is free.
