With Tucson’s deep Latino roots, it’s no surprise that salsa dancing is all the rage, and the best place to learn the steps, find a partner, and cut a caliente rug is the colorful jungle-like atmosphere of El Parador.
Every Friday starting at 10:45 p.m. a salsa master offers dance lessons for an extra $5; then you can try out what you’ve learned in front of powerful, brassy, fun-loving band Descarga until the wee hours.
This is a great place to commune with Tucson’s Latino community; on many weekend nights, young men and women up from Ambos Nogales crowd the dance floor, dressed to impress and swinging and kicking and sweating to the music. On alternating Saturdays the band Salsarengue plays a more traditional brand of salsa.
