Across the road from the parliament buildings is the Royal London Wax Museum (470 Belleville St., 250/388-4461, daily 9 a.m.–5 p.m., until 7:30 p.m. in summer, adult $12, senior $11, child $6). As you enter the grandly ornate building, pay the admission to the cashier on the right. Inside the attraction proper is a series of galleries filled with around 300 wax figures—British Royalty, famous folks such as Mother Teresa and Albert Einstein, Canadian heroes like courageous cancer victim Terry Fox, and Arctic explorers.

On the water beside the wax museum, the Pacific Undersea Gardens (490 Belleville St., 250/382-5717, daily 9 a.m.–8 p.m. in summer, daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m. the rest of the year, adult $10, senior $9, child $8) are of dubious value. Local species on display include tasty snapper, enormous sturgeon, schools of salmon, and scary wolf eels. Scuba divers miked for sound make regular appearances at the far end.
