St. Thomas has 11 official anchorages, including Bolongo Bay, Charlotte Amalie Harbor, Cowpet Bay, Hull Bay, Jersey Bay, Long Bay, Muller Bay, Nazareth Bay (Secret Harbor), Red Hook, Benner Bay, and Vessup Bay.
On Water Island, you can anchor at Elephant Bay, Flamingo Bay, and Honeymoon Bay. On Hassel Island, anchor at Careening Cove. You can also anchor at Christmas Cove on Great St. James Island off the eastern tip of St. Thomas.
The Reef Ecology Foundation of St. Thomas and St. John has set up a limited number of moorings for public use to protect the coral reef from anchor damage. These blue-striped buoys are free but restricted to boats less than 60 feet long. They are located at Thatch Cay, Grass Cay, Congo Cay, Carvel Rock, Great St. James, Little St. James, Cow and Calf, Capella Island, Flat Cay, and Saba Island.
These moorings are intended for day use only and not in storm conditions. There is a three-hour time limit on use.
