White stucco cottages line lovely Lambert Beach at Lambert Beach Resort (284/495-2877, fax 284/495-2876, www.lambertresort.com, $195–300 winter, $110–180 summer) on the northeastern coast of Tortola. There are plans in the works for Lambert to become a Raffles brand resort (to be called Raffles Tortola), with beachfront resort accommodations, private villas, and world-class amenities including a spa, pool, beach club, and gym. For now, however, the aging 38-room hotel features a pool, tennis courts, restaurant, and water sports equipment rental. The beach is beautiful, but waves and a strong current sometimes make swimming dangerous. Some travelers may be turned off by the resort’s lack of attention to details, but others may be so smitten with the location that they do not care. Accommodation ranges from modest hotel-style garden rooms to two-bedroom beachfront villas. Various meal plans are available from the hotel’s beachfront restaurant.
